On-site diagnostics & board repair

Here's where most people get told to buy a new one.

A control board goes out and the tech who shows up quotes a replacement board. Half the time the part isn't made anymore, so the next sentence is "you're better off replacing the unit." We open the board instead.

What board-level actually means

Fixing the board, not swapping it.

A control board is a circuit board like any other. When one fails it's almost always a specific component on it, and components can be replaced.

Relays

The clicking switches that send power to motors and heaters. Contacts weld shut or burn open. We replace them rather than bypassing them, because a bypassed relay is a fire waiting to happen.

Capacitors

Bulged tops, leaking electrolyte, brown residue around the base. One of the most common failures on boards more than a few years old and one of the most straightforward to fix.

Connectors

Headers that have overheated and browned the board around them. The connector comes off, damaged pads get rebuilt, and a new one goes on.

Traces

The copper paths on the board itself, lifted or corroded from moisture. These get bridged and sealed so the repair holds instead of failing again next season.

Diagnostics

We test before anybody spends money.

The expensive mistake in this trade is parts-swapping — buying a board, then a sensor, then a pump, hoping one of them was it. Every one of those is non-returnable once installed.

Component testing tells us which part actually failed. Sometimes the answer is that the repair isn't worth it, and we'll say so.

Smart devices

Getting connected appliances back on the network.

Wi-Fi pairing

Smart washers, dryers and refrigerators that dropped off the network after a router change and won't pair again from the panel.

App setup

Getting the manufacturer's app talking to the machine so cycle alerts and diagnostics actually reach your phone.

Get on the schedule

Send us the board, or we'll come to it.

Tell us the appliance, the model number and what it's doing. If it's a board fault we can usually say so before we're out the door.
