Washers, dryers, fridges, dishwashers

Before you go price out a new one.

Most appliance failures come down to a board, a sensor, a door switch or a pump — not the machine being finished. We come to the house, read what it's actually telling us, and give you a price before anything gets taken apart.

Washers & dryers

Stops mid-cycle, won't drain, won't start.

Won't drain or won't spin

Water sitting in the drum at the end of a cycle. Usually the pump filter, a kinked hose or a failed drain pump — occasionally a pressure sensor telling the board the wrong thing.

Door won't lock or won't open

Front loaders won't run until the lock reads closed, and won't release until it reads cool. Lock assemblies and latch switches are common and cheap.

Control boards

Dead panel, random codes, cycles that start and quit. This is the repair most techs won't attempt and where we usually save people the most money.

Dryers not drying

Runs full cycle, clothes still damp. Airflow restriction, a heating element, or the thermostat and relay that drive it.

Common codes

What the display is trying to tell you.

Codes vary by brand and model year, so treat this as a starting point rather than a diagnosis. If yours isn't here, the reader on the home page covers more.

CodeBrandsWhat it usually means
F21 / F02Whirlpool, MaytagLong drain. The machine isn't emptying fast enough — filter, hose or pump.
F01Whirlpool, MaytagMain control board failure. Usually a relay or capacitor on the board itself.
LELGMotor locked. Overloaded drum, a hall sensor, or a stator fault.
OELGDrain error. Pump filter, drain hose or the pump motor.
IELGWater isn't filling in time. Supply valves, inlet screens or the inlet valve.
UELG, SamsungUnbalanced load. If it repeats, look at suspension rods or the sensor.
4E / 5ESamsungWater supply and drain faults respectively.
3ESamsungMotor fault — hall sensor, windings, or the driver stage on the board.
E15 / E24BoschWater in the base pan, or a blocked drain.
22ESamsung fridgesFan or fan circuit fault. Ice obstruction or the board's fan driver.
OF OFSamsung fridgesDemo mode. The fridge is running the showroom program and not cooling. Two minutes, no parts.

Refrigerators & kitchen

Warm fridge, cold freezer.

That combination is one of the most common calls we get, and it's almost never a dead compressor. It's usually an evaporator fan, a defrost problem icing over the coils, or the board circuit that drives them.

Which matters, because "compressor" is when people start shopping for a new refrigerator.

  • DISHWASHERSControl panels, dead buttons, drain faults
  • MICROWAVESTouchpads, blown fuses, door switches

Get on the schedule

Have the code and model ready.

The model number is on a sticker — inside the door on a washer or dishwasher, on the wall inside a fridge. With that and the code, we often know the part before we leave.
